The efficient train system takes over where trams leave off; its hub is the Flinders Street Station (corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets). Where neither trains nor trams can go, buses will. An extensive network links to both services. Tickets for travel on all three services are available from vending machines at train stations, on trams or buses or from certain stores, especially newsagents. Bright-yellow taxis are numerous and not expensive, and several boat routes ply the Yarra River. The city center (CBD) is a compact grid, perfect for walking.
